Incipit: ‘Gregorius episcopus servus servorum dei ...’
[Illuminated frontispiece illustrating the papal bull: Pope Gregory IX is depicted seated, his right hand elevated in a blessing gesture (raised index and middle finger), his left hand laying on the upper edge of a volume. The volume is offered to him by a kneeling friar, behind whom stand a cardinal and two more friars. The cardinal and the friar on the right point to the friar standing in the middle, who in turn lays one hand on the back of the kneeling friar to introduce him and raises his other hand to address the Pope. ]

Incipit: ‘Ex concilio affricano. De Quodvultdeo ...’
[Illuminated frontispiece illustrating book II: A secular judge is depicted enthroned in a central position, visually suggesting his impartiality in the administration of justice. On the right side are two tonsured friars, who should presumably be identified as the accusing party. They both hold handwritten documents (probably the indictment acts); one points to the other, who holds up his right hand (perhaps to take an oath). On the opposite sides are two more friars, who should probably be identified with the defendant party; they both hold up their left hands and raise their right index finger to defend themselves from the accusations. ]

Explicit liber secundus incipit tercius de vita et honestate clericurum. Rubrica
Incipit: ‘Ex concilio maguntino. Ut layci ...’
[Illuminated frontispiece illustrating book III: The scene takes place in a church, the interior of which is divided into two bays by a column. On the right side is an altar with a chalice on top of it; a priest stands in front of it and raises the host to celebrate the Eucharist. Behind him is a kneeling acolyte holding a church candle. Under the left bay an acolyte is violently forcing a layman out of the sacred space (its threshold is represented by a column supporting the two arches), his left hand pushing the man’s arm and his right hand threatening him with a raised stick (an aspergillum?). The layman proceeds to walk away, turning his head to look at the acolyte and raising his right hand as a sign of acquiescence.]
