Layout: 2 columns; Textus inclusus (Glossa)
Illustrations: Illuminated frontispieces on ff. 1r (illustration of the papal bull: Pope Gregory IX receives the book of the Decretales), 199r (illustration of book II, "De iudiciis": Judgement and imprisonment of the defendant), 376r (illustration of book III, "De vita et honestate clericorum": Expulsion of lay people from the celebration of the Eucharist), 513r (illustration of book IV, "De sponsalibus": Wedding ceremony) and 561r (illustration of book V, "De accusationibus, inquisitionibus et denunciationibus": Judgement scene with pope). Illuminated ornamental initials at the beginning of each titulus, both in the main text and in the gloss. Initials and paragraph signs alternatively in red and blue throughout the volume. Rubrics and running titles in red and blue.
Maria Alessandra Bilotta attributed the illuminated decoration to a single artist, observing that they exhibit a strong Parisian influence and that their activity was probably contemporary to the beginning of Jean Pucelle's (1315-1320). Bilotta also notes that the ornamental initials with painted leaves are stylistically close to Toulouse. She hypothesises that either the artist worked in Paris and adapted his style to the Toulousan taste of the patron, or that they moved from Paris to Toulouse (less probable).
