Domini Iustiniani sacratissimi principis dig. seu pandec. Explicit liber XXXVIII [likely was followed by: Incipit Liber XXXIX. De operis novi nuntiatione]
Incipit: ‘[Hoc edicto promittitur ut sive] iure sive iniuria ...’
[Titulus in red; the second and the first words of the incipit is partly cut out together with the illuminated initial]
174v
Explicit: ‘... reddita causa prestat et tota restitutio iuris est interpretatio.’
Layout: Textus inclusus (Glossa); Glossae; Ornamental initials; Catchwords; Running titles/rubrics; Nota interlineare; Prickings can be seen on almost all leaves. Catchwords are missing on quires 13, 15, 18, 20. Illuminated initials cut out.
Illustrations: Major capital illuminated at the beginning of the books (all cut out), about 100x70 mm. Decorated initials to all Tituli (mm 20/25x20), in colours (yellow, green, red and blue), figures of animals (birds, fish, dragons), romanic style. Minor initials and paragraph marks in alternate red and blue; running reference to the book are also made in red and blue.
Iconclass: Abstract, Non-representational Art
Remarks: The writing style of the main text looks like in between the caroline and gothic handwriting. The glossa is written in Gothic rotunda.
Reference from the glossae to the main text are made of symbols (not figures) as they were written while produced by the glossator. Running titles are reference to the books I to XII.
Four levels of Glossae can be seen, written in different colours: black ink (in between the lines and a few marginal ones); light brown (the glossa ordinaria 'in fieri'); marginal notes are also added later on (14th and 15th century).
